Tromsø Kp 0–1

Norway

At geomagnetic latitude ~67°, Tromsø sits under the auroral oval — the northern lights appear on quiet nights, so the limiting factor is almost never Kp, it is cloud.

Abisko Kp 0–1

Sweden

Abisko sits in a rain shadow — the surrounding peaks wring out the weather and leave a "blue hole" of clear sky that gives it the best aurora odds in Europe.

Lofoten Kp 0–1

Norway

Lofoten pairs oval-latitude aurora with sea-level granite peaks and beaches — the foreground is why you shoot the northern lights here rather than just see them.

Iceland Kp 2–3

Þingvellir / Reykjavík

Iceland trades a slightly lower geomagnetic latitude for unmatched foregrounds — waterfalls, black sand and lava under the aurora — and dark skies minutes from Reykjavík.

Fairbanks Kp 1–2

Alaska, USA

Interior Alaska has a dry, continental climate — far clearer nights than the Scandinavian coast — and sits close enough to the oval that aurora is a near-nightly bet in season.

Yellowknife Kp 0–1

Northwest Territories, Canada

Because the magnetic pole leans toward Canada, Yellowknife sits at geomagnetic ~67° despite a modest geographic latitude — one of the most reliable aurora locations on Earth.

Isle of Skye Kp 4–5

Scotland

Skye is the rare spot that works for both: dark enough for the Milky Way in summer, far enough north to catch the aurora on stronger storms — over the Cuillin and sea lochs.

Rovaniemi Kp 2–3

Finnish Lapland

On the Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi offers a drier, more continental climate than the Norwegian coast — colder and clearer, with aurora on most active nights in season.
